[James Blunt on why we should fund the record industry - Times Online]
Dear Mr Blunt,
It’s been over 40 years since Sgt Peppers came out. The fact you had to use an album older than yourself as an example shows that the record label system hasn’t done dick to aid ‘emerging artists’ such as yourself to create a masterpiece to usurp The Beatles.
To say that the big four record companies are more interested in your next album of date rape anthems to be a musical classic to withstand almost half a decade of criticism and competition and come out unscathed is akin to telling me that with the next Michael Bay movie will rival The Godfather.
It won’t. You won’t. They won’t.
The system you’re supporting is dead. You want to know the first step to surviving in the musical climate of tomorrow? I have the answer:
Make better music.
